During a severe thunderstorm just before 9:00 PM, emergency crews in Fort Worth responded to multiple reports of a house fire in the 4200 block of Leeds Drive that was believed to have been caused by a lightning strike. Nearby residents quickly acted, knocking on the home’s door to make sure everyone inside was able to get out safely.
When firefighters arrived, they encountered heavy flames spreading rapidly from the roof of a two-story corner home. Crews began an aggressive interior attack, extending hose lines into the structure to reach the attic where the fire had spread. After approximately 20 minutes of firefighting efforts inside the home, conditions worsened, prompting the Safety Officer to order an evacuation. Command then shifted to a defensive strategy to continue battling the fire from the outside.
Firefighters worked for more than an hour to control the blaze while also protecting neighboring homes from catching fire. During the incident, the chimney collapsed into the roof structure. Fortunately, no injuries were reported, as all occupants had been safely evacuated. The fire was ultimately brought under control around 10:35 PM.
